Voter Registration

To become an active voter one must register to vote with the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections office. An inactive voter is one who has previously registered, but has not had contact with the elections office for a two year period. These individuals are sent an address confirmation notice to the address listed in the voter registration roll. If it is returned the registration remains active; if the notice is not returned or if it is returned by the postal service as undeliverable, the registration will be put in an inactive status. Voters in an inactive status may still vote by simply confirming or updating their address at the polls or when they request an absentee ballot. If a voter registration is in an inactive status and that individual does not vote in the next two General Elections (the November election in even-numbered years), then the registration is cancelled and the individual must re-register to be eligible to vote. This designation is mandated by Florida Statues Chapter 98.065(4)(c)
